Ended our portaging trip a couple hours early, decided to see if we could check in (3 hours before our check in time). Was pleasantly surprised by our room being ready early, also impressed with the contact less check in. I was sent an email and a text with all of the information as soon as I walked into the main common space of the hotel. The room was very clean, equipped with a small kitchenette, king bed, table and chairs and a full bath. Also came equipped with local shamooo, conditioner and shower gel plus utensils, wine glasses, a refrigerator and microwave for heating up leftovers. We had the perfect view of Lake Placid and Whiteface mountain, with access to the pool, dock, paddle boards and kayaks. I’ve stayed in almost all of the hotels in and near LP and I’ll be back to this one. Reasonably priced for the amenities, views and homey stay.

This place is right on the water, although it is in a back bay area. They have a nice fire pit and you can use their canoes and kayaks and paddle boards. Great location. The pool was closed due to some repairs. No breakfast or coffee but coffee in the rooms. No one is on sight to help you check in or answer questions so be sure to check your email for your room code. They have kitchenettes in some rooms. Some rooms are quite small. We rented 4 rooms or varying accommodations.

Great place to stay on the lake

Stayed for two nights in a king bed lake view room - comfy bed, clean bathroom, slightly run down carpet, but clean. Only complaint was hearing other guests at night outside or in their rooms due to thin walls and windows. Enjoyed the digital check in. Great place to stay on the lake.

We spent a week in the Mallard Cottage. Can't beat the location, we were even closer to the water than expected. Within walking distance to downtown, with tons of shops and restaurants. We were a little disappointed in the actual cottage. Multiple light fixtures missing bulbs, the fireplace did not work, the ceiling fan and ac were covered in thick dust. As others had mentioned, there is no management on premises, and housekeeping is not available every day. We had access to extra towels in the lobby, but we needed trash bags and had to wait until housekeeping was on premises to get some. There also is no one around to keep the property clean. There was a large group that left the kayaks and canoes a mess, and someone actually threw a bunch of bread on the lawn for the geese. We ended up picking everything up as it was an eyesore and didn't want the geese to get sick. All in all, it was a pleasant trip. For over $500 a night I think we just expected more attention to detail. Our few interactions with management, housekeeping and maintenance were very pleasant , they just seem spread a little thin.

Great value and location in Lake Placid. The room we stayed in was smaller than expected but very clean had a nice modern style. We didn’t have time to check out the kayaks but hope to next time.

Great value on Lake Placid!

Great location on Lake Placid! Clean rooms and bathroom. Good water pressure. Housekeeping needs training so tell them what you need… ice machine in the office needs a scoop. Very comfortable beds. Easy instructions for check in. nWonderful lake views!

It was a very nice room with everything we needed and wanted, including an amazing view. There was never anyone at the "front desk" but they provided extras right there in the lobby. We were there for my sons AAU tournament and absolutely loved it. We would stay here, again without hesitation.

Rooms are not very big (2 queen room) but overall and awesome value and stay. No front desk staff, all remote. Easy to work with and very clean. Amazing access to the lake. Fire pit and chairs for relaxing on the shore.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay here. We had a Lakeview room. It was very clean and had everything we needed. I loved being able to sit by the water and having views of the mountains. It was nice having an easy check-in and out and the electronic key. The only downside to not having staff onsite is not having anyone to deal with the rambunctious teenagers running around all hours of the night making noise and clearly their parents not caring. Otherwise our stay was great. We would stay here again.

I cannot write enough amazing things about Placid Bay. My family and I are going through a hard time with my grandmother passing at a nearby facility. We have been renting several rooms from them and had to ask for late check out which then turned into switching rooms completely as we had already checked out and checked back in. Alex and Joni have been extremely flexible and accommodating. As far as the rooms, they have been remodeled incredibly well. They use Kassatex bath towels and bed linens. If you know this brand, you know how soft, cozy, plush and expensive they are. Huge smart t.v. in the rooms, small fridge, Keurig w/K-cups, creamer and sugar. We rented the large cabin the first two nights before switching to regular queen size rooms. It had gorgeous views of Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain. We did have a 1.5 yr old with us and the only thing I would say isn't quite baby friendly is the coffee table as it is square and the top swivels from the bottom so he fell a couple times. Otherwise, it was perfect for 5 ppl and a baby.I will absolutely be coming back to stay here and I will recommend Placid Bay to others. We usually stay down on Main Street but I won't be moving forward simply for the hospitality that was given to us and the absolute comfort of the rooms/beds.

Perfect for ski get away

We stayed in lake view fireplace room, everything SUPER! Comfy beds, roomy, walk in closet area with large mini fridge. Starbucks coffee kuerig in room. Nice to have the guest lounge on the premises as well. The other couple we booked with had a king kitchenette, we were able to meet up and chat in lounge. Less than 15 min walk to center of town. Automatic check in, but if we needed, super helpful people available so service great! Would definitely stay here again

Great place to stay in Lake Placid, with a cozy comfortable, clean room, modern HDTV setup with lots of options, and a nice size bathroom with 2 sinks. I usually ski Gore with my ski3ORDA pass, but I love Whiteface mountain and the local x-country skiing around here, so will visit/stay here more often in the future.

Extremely easy to book online, with an even easier process to get to your room w/o the need for an annoying check in desk. They had a great amenities for entertainment, and outdoor activities. Lovely guest lounge and right on the bay.

Nice finishes in rooms, a trendy contemporary setting with alpine taste. Area is nice. Backs up to a lake. Theres no 'chk in' , just a key in envelope, Be advised rooms are little on small side, so don't expect a 400 sqft room. But everything works as should. Will return.

The location of this hotel is perfect; it's just on the outskirts of Lake Placid so it's away from the business of the main street, but close enough that you can walk. It has a beautiful view of Lake Placid, canoes, kayaks and paddles boards you can borrow to go for a paddle and chairs to sit and relax on while looking at the water. The reason I only gave a 4 star, is because I did find the rooms could have been cleaner. There was sugar on the table beside the coffee machine and the carpet was quite stained. Overall the room wasn't terrible, but felt like not a complete attention to detail. It's also the first hotel I've ever stayed at where there was no reception desk to check in. Everything was communicated by text and our room keys were just sitting out in the lobby when we got there. We saw staff around as they were cleaning, but didn't speak to any one our entire stay. It was neither good nor bad...just different! Overall we had a great trip to Lake Placid and would consider staying again!
