Ended our portaging trip a couple hours early, decided to see if we could check in (3 hours before our check in time). Was pleasantly surprised by our room being ready early, also impressed with the contact less check in. I was sent an email and a text with all of the information as soon as I walked into the main common space of the hotel. The room was very clean, equipped with a small kitchenette, king bed, table and chairs and a full bath. Also came equipped with local shamooo, conditioner and shower gel plus utensils, wine glasses, a refrigerator and microwave for heating up leftovers. We had the perfect view of Lake Placid and Whiteface mountain, with access to the pool, dock, paddle boards and kayaks. I’ve stayed in almost all of the hotels in and near LP and I’ll be back to this one. Reasonably priced for the amenities, views and homey stay.

This place is right on the water, although it is in a back bay area. They have a nice fire pit and you can use their canoes and kayaks and paddle boards. Great location. The pool was closed due to some repairs. No breakfast or coffee but coffee in the rooms. No one is on sight to help you check in or answer questions so be sure to check your email for your room code. They have kitchenettes in some rooms. Some rooms are quite small. We rented 4 rooms or varying accommodations.

Great place to stay on the lake

Stayed for two nights in a king bed lake view room - comfy bed, clean bathroom, slightly run down carpet, but clean. Only complaint was hearing other guests at night outside or in their rooms due to thin walls and windows. Enjoyed the digital check in. Great place to stay on the lake.

We spent a week in the Mallard Cottage. Can't beat the location, we were even closer to the water than expected. Within walking distance to downtown, with tons of shops and restaurants. We were a little disappointed in the actual cottage. Multiple light fixtures missing bulbs, the fireplace did not work, the ceiling fan and ac were covered in thick dust. As others had mentioned, there is no management on premises, and housekeeping is not available every day. We had access to extra towels in the lobby, but we needed trash bags and had to wait until housekeeping was on premises to get some. There also is no one around to keep the property clean. There was a large group that left the kayaks and canoes a mess, and someone actually threw a bunch of bread on the lawn for the geese. We ended up picking everything up as it was an eyesore and didn't want the geese to get sick. All in all, it was a pleasant trip. For over $500 a night I think we just expected more attention to detail. Our few interactions with management, housekeeping and maintenance were very pleasant , they just seem spread a little thin.

It was a very nice room with everything we needed and wanted, including an amazing view. There was never anyone at the "front desk" but they provided extras right there in the lobby. We were there for my sons AAU tournament and absolutely loved it. We would stay here, again without hesitation.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay here. We had a Lakeview room. It was very clean and had everything we needed. I loved being able to sit by the water and having views of the mountains. It was nice having an easy check-in and out and the electronic key. The only downside to not having staff onsite is not having anyone to deal with the rambunctious teenagers running around all hours of the night making noise and clearly their parents not caring. Otherwise our stay was great. We would stay here again.

I cannot write enough amazing things about Placid Bay. My family and I are going through a hard time with my grandmother passing at a nearby facility. We have been renting several rooms from them and had to ask for late check out which then turned into switching rooms completely as we had already checked out and checked back in. Alex and Joni have been extremely flexible and accommodating. As far as the rooms, they have been remodeled incredibly well. They use Kassatex bath towels and bed linens. If you know this brand, you know how soft, cozy, plush and expensive they are. Huge smart t.v. in the rooms, small fridge, Keurig w/K-cups, creamer and sugar. We rented the large cabin the first two nights before switching to regular queen size rooms. It had gorgeous views of Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain. We did have a 1.5 yr old with us and the only thing I would say isn't quite baby friendly is the coffee table as it is square and the top swivels from the bottom so he fell a couple times. Otherwise, it was perfect for 5 ppl and a baby.I will absolutely be coming back to stay here and I will recommend Placid Bay to others. We usually stay down on Main Street but I won't be moving forward simply for the hospitality that was given to us and the absolute comfort of the rooms/beds.

Perfect for ski get away

We stayed in lake view fireplace room, everything SUPER! Comfy beds, roomy, walk in closet area with large mini fridge. Starbucks coffee kuerig in room. Nice to have the guest lounge on the premises as well. The other couple we booked with had a king kitchenette, we were able to meet up and chat in lounge. Less than 15 min walk to center of town. Automatic check in, but if we needed, super helpful people available so service great! Would definitely stay here again

The location of this hotel is perfect; it's just on the outskirts of Lake Placid so it's away from the business of the main street, but close enough that you can walk. It has a beautiful view of Lake Placid, canoes, kayaks and paddles boards you can borrow to go for a paddle and chairs to sit and relax on while looking at the water. The reason I only gave a 4 star, is because I did find the rooms could have been cleaner. There was sugar on the table beside the coffee machine and the carpet was quite stained. Overall the room wasn't terrible, but felt like not a complete attention to detail. It's also the first hotel I've ever stayed at where there was no reception desk to check in. Everything was communicated by text and our room keys were just sitting out in the lobby when we got there. We saw staff around as they were cleaning, but didn't speak to any one our entire stay. It was neither good nor bad...just different! Overall we had a great trip to Lake Placid and would consider staying again!

Short Stay for a Wedding

We had a wedding nearby and booked 1 night stay at Placid Bay Hotel. We were able to grab key and get right up to our room. The room was clean and modern. Alexa, big screen tv, super soft fluffy towels. I was happy to see black make up wash clothes available too. We want to return again in the warmer weather and take advantage of the free use of their canoes and kayaks. Highly recommend.

Our room was very nice. It was a good size and the bed, linens, towels were high quality. We were in RM 19 so had very pretty views. We were able to walk back and forth to town (0.6 mile) so that was a big plus for us. Downside... we were not fans of there not being an attendant in the office. We met one of the managers and she was very nice and assured us if we needed anything we only had to call our text. I downloaded their texting app and it wouldn't work (was told it doesn't work for everyone) . We needed replacement trash can liners. There were none in the office where you get extra towels, etc, so I texted them the normal way... never heard back. Had it been something more important I would have continued to call/ text but it wasn't worth it. It's probably our age, but we also weren't a fan of the streaming services. Never figured out how to get the major networks and there were no instructions. All in all, a very good value for the money but probably won't rebook.

Parking is pretty tight. Only enough coffee for one person and no cups. I did let the cleaning lady know the next morning when we left. It was a very clean hotel. We did have an issue and that is why I only gave 4 stars. We received a text saying that our is room # 1 and key is in an envelope in office. The text did ask if we had any special requests and what was our expected time of arrival. I responded with estimated arrival, but no special requests. I did not feel I needed to ask for a special request since we were given first floor room #1. When we arrived I picked up my envelope in the office and walked over to room # 1. Opened envelope and realized they changed our room to 2nd floor. I went back to office and explained that when I booked I asked for first floor and text said I had first floor. She said she did not have any requests from me from booking or from text. I feel the text was misleading. You give me the 1st floor and ask if I have any special requests. That was my special request, but since I got it I did not feel I needed say yes I have a special request I want first floor! I already had it! We were on a 3 week vacation and had a lot of bins in our vehicle. We ended up leaving all of our stuff in the vehicle and just taking a few things in the hotel.

Lake Placid is a beautiful lake that can only be enjoyed if you have a lake- front property, so it's essential to stay at a hotel that is at the lake shore, otherwise, you can hardly see what the lake is like! Placid Bay had exactly that. It's rooms are clean, have good size bathrooms and a walk in closet. They also have coffee and snacks at the lodge room. In the morning, there is milk as well. The best of all, they have free kayaks, row boats, and Stand up kayaks with life jackets. The lake front at the hotel is not the prettiest, but at least we can get to the lake! We had a fun time exploring the lake on a row boat.

But it’s just a place to sleep because you’ll want to be outside if it’s nice out. The pool was clean. Had it to ourselves. Plenty of seats around a fire pit, on the dock, by the water, plenty of room for everyone. Free access to kayaks, canoes and paddle boards. Beautiful view from the property. They had a bunch of flowers around with lots of visiting hummingbirds. Ducks even came to say hello while I was sitting watching the sunrise.

This was the third year in a row my husband & I have stayed here. We've been coming in August to celebrate his birthday. The location is fantastic. We have a great view of the water & mountains ! Main st. Is less than 5 minutes away. The rooms are always very clean , bed comfortable & when we need new towels the staff brought then right to our room. After an hour of canoeing , it was great Dipping into the pool. At night we enjoyed sitting by the water while other guests had a fire going. Even though the hotel seems booked , other guests are very courteous towards each other . The only con & this is just me being picky: a staff member was cleaning one of the downstairs rooms. He was sitting outside the room & to walk past him , you had to walk through his cigarette smoke. Overall we love our stay here & can't wait to come back again next Summer.

A great 2 night stay

I am happy I chose this hotel for my stay in Lake Placid area. My husband and I had a very good stay. We book a king room with lake view and thats what we got. View from the room and from outside was amazing. It was quiet and peaceful, expect at night because the AC was super loud. I had to wear ear plugs to sleep. Bed was very comfortable, room was clean and modern, good size with pretty much everything you may need. nWe used the pool for a couple of hours and it was nice.nCommunication with management was very good. They texted me our room number and I asked If I could go to the room 1 or 2 hours before check in time and it was honored. They also checked on us mid through our stay and offered to send someone to look at the ac unit but at that point we only had 1 night left so I declined. nWe would love to go back with our family next summer. Here a few suggestions that at least for us would make our stay even better in the future:n- pillows are all the same. Having one that is smaller, less full than the others will be a nice touch.n- Only 2 big towels available, 1 or 2 more for 2 ppl total would be idealn- Only saw 1 picnic table and it was next to one of the cottages so we did not use, thinking it will probably for them only. Plenty of space to have 1 or 2 more added.

Good!

We stayed for 4th of July. The view from the dock is so stunning, could sit there for hours. The outside of the hotel is beautiful & well kept. Parking was a bit tight when the hotel was at 100%. The walking distance to down is great. nGreat value but some takeaways for the manager/owner: the carpets were bad.. they truly need to be deep cleaned or replaced w/ a darker color. The bed was too soft for me (but thats a preference thing), however I did love the pillows and normally cant use hotel pillows because theyre too thick. The AC unit is LOUD. We left it on the fan setting at night to drown out the street noise. nAdditionally, for a 2 double bed room we were only issued 2 bath towels at check in, which I thought was odd. We got more the next couple days after asking. nThere were a few other minor cosmetic things in the room that I just wouldnt expect of a newly renovated hotel (marks on the walls & again, the carpets). Lastly - the room we had really needs a deep clean (dusty headboards, ledges, bathroom ledge, and the light fixture in the bathroom had a gap around it that you could see up into how dirty it was. Also some dead bugs on the bathroom ceiling). But none of this was enough to make me feel uncomfortable or as if I was staying in a run down motel.nAll in all, I would totally recommend this hotel (staff is friendly, and again the view & the fire pit & the boats!!), and I would certainly consider staying here on our next trip but in a larger room!nThank you Emma & team!

Some of the features that impressed me the most are virtual concierge, HD smart tv with Netflix, Disney and Hulu and Alexa. If you have seen June hotels show on Netflix, placid bay has def got those vibes. The hotel has a outdoor pool which should be open in summers and has a lake front with free kayaks and boats that you can take to explore lake placid from the waters. It is very scenic. Last but not the least, every important daily needs such as groceries, restaurants, liquor and shopping stores are walking distance. Overall a perfect get away from the busy city life.

Making Every Day Feel Like the Weekend
